Sedation Dentistry

Welcome to Monument Dental – Monument Dental, where we understand that a visit to the dentist can be a source of anxiety for many. This is why we offer sedation dentistry, a safe and effective solution designed to help you feel relaxed and comfortable during your dental procedures. Whether you’re dealing with dental anxiety, a low pain threshold, or have complex treatment needs, sedation dentistry can transform your experience.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry involves the use of medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It’s sometimes referred to as “sleep dentistry,” although most patients remain awake unless under general anesthesia. At Monument Dental, Monument Dental utilizes various levels of sedation to meet your individual needs:

Minimal sedation: You are awake but relaxed.
Moderate sedation: You may slur your words and not remember much of the procedure.
Deep sedation: You are on the edge of consciousness but can still be awakened.
General anesthesia: You are completely unconscious.

Who Can Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?

Dental anxiety or phobia
A strong gag reflex
Sensitivity to pain
Difficulty sitting still for long periods
Complex dental problems requiring lengthy procedures

Types of Sedation Offered at Monument Dental

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Commonly used for minimal sedation, nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask placed over your nose. It helps you relax while allowing you to remain awake and responsive. The effects wear off quickly, enabling you to drive home after the procedure.

Oral Sedation

Ranging from minimal to moderate sedation, oral medication is taken about an hour before your procedure. Although you remain awake, you will feel drowsy and may fall asleep during the procedure. A companion will be needed to drive you home.

IV Sedation

IV sedation allows for a deeper level of sedation. Administered through a vein, it works quickly, and the level of sedation can be adjusted by Dr. Koren during the procedure. You may not remember much of the experience, and a ride home will be necessary.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

Yes, sedation dentistry is generally safe when administered by a trained professional. At Monument Dental – Monument Dental, we prioritize your safety and comfort. Our team is experienced in monitoring patients’ vital signs and ensuring that sedation levels are appropriate throughout the procedure.
