Pulpectomy

At Monument Dental, we aim to save natural teeth whenever possible. A pulpectomy is a procedure that removes infected tissue from inside a tooth to relieve pain and prevent further damage.

What Is a Pulpectomy?

A pulpectomy involves removing all infected pulp tissue from both the crown and roots of a tooth. It is often performed on children’s primary teeth but can also be used for permanent teeth.

When a Pulpectomy Is Needed

Severe decay reaching the pulp
Dental abscess or infection
Trauma causing pulp damage

What to Expect

Our dentist gently removes the infected tissue, disinfects the canals, and seals the space with a filling material. This preserves the natural tooth while eliminating infection.

Benefits of a Pulpectomy

Relieves pain quickly
Preserves natural teeth
Prevents spread of infection

They are similar, but pulpectomies are often performed on children, while root canals are more common in adults.

Mild soreness may occur, but children typically recover quickly.
